How children learn (Experience and Education)
In an experience, interaction occurs between an individual, objects, and other people. The experience becomes what it is because of this transaction between an individual and what constitutes his or her environment. The environment consists of whatever conditions (objects or people) interact with an individual’s internal personal needs, desires, capacities, and purposes that create the resulting experience (Dewey, 1938, pp. 43-44).

Malcolm X London: High school training ground
When poet Malcolm X. London spits that “the educated aren’t necessarily the educated,” he’s referring to the inequalities of the public school system. The18-year-old Lincoln Park High School senior argues that our “failing” schools are actually succeeding at what he says is their real purpose: Preparing young people for a future that mimics the problems and contradictions of society as a whole. “My high school is Chicago,” he recites. “Diverse and segregated on purpose.”
